8/22/15You may remember back in June when I discovered bullet journaling, now if you don’t know what bullet journaling is you can click the link to take you to my post about it, but in short it is just a book that you can make fit to your lifestyle. You can use it as a planner, a workout log, a place to store lists, goals, ideas, and everything else in between. It is completely customizable and can be life changing if you are someone who is obsessed with organizing, like myself. It was a brand new idea to me at the time but it made complete sense in my head. No more did I need all of these sticky notes lying around, or notebooks that were half full. I just put whatever notes I have for myself in the bullet journal, and they are all in one place. Soon after I got my bullet journal I did an update post showing how I have been using it, and now that it has been 2 months I thought I would do another post about it.

Since the last update post on my bullet journal I have added 18 pages, which isn’t a ton but it is because I haven’t been using my bullet journal daily. However, this doesn’t mean that I haven’t been enjoying it and using it, I just don’t need a planner that much during the summer since I don’t have a lot of things I need to do each day. I have picked it up again now that it is August and that it is close to the start of school, which means there are more things to keep track of now. Once I get more of a daily routine I will incorporate my bullet journal and start making daily task lists, but during the summer everything is more laid back and I don’t have as many things to accomplish. I still created lots of lists and I made sure to keep things organized, but I just didn’t create many daily to do lists which cut down on the amount of pages I used.
I mainly just going to talk about ideas for bullet journals, so you can see what things I like to organize. For example I created a page where I could make a list of what I needed to bring when I went up to my cabin. I always create lists before I pack for a trip to make sure I don’t forget anything, and to limit my overpacking. I also create lists for things I need/want to buy, and I categorize them, for example I have a list of makeup items I want to try, and a list for decor items i want for my room. I have an ongoing list of christmas/birthday gifts since I never can think of good ideas for gifts when I need them. I also have a list of clothing items I want to keep an eye out for. I don’t know if you have heard of intentional shopping, but it is where you create a list of what you want to buy, so you don’t end up just impulse buying.
I am focusing on getting more staple pieces for my wardrobe and I hoping to get some that are higher quality that will last me a while. Now, because this list doesn’t take up the whole page I thought I would save room and put another list on the same page, but instead of having it be about clothes I want to buy, it is about clothes I am thinking about getting rid of. In the past I have made posts when I do closet purges, but for the last 6 months I wouldn’t let myself get rid of any clothes because I know I will have a hard time adjusting to having to pick out an outfit each day. I grew up going to private schools where we would wear uniforms and I know I will struggle with coming up with an outfit each day. For this reason I am keeping clothes that I am on the fence about since I know they may come in handy. However if I don’t wear them by the start of next year I will get rid of the items, having a list just helps me keep track of what items I was planning on getting rid of in the first place.
Now because this created a whole page centered around my closet I thought it would be a good place to also keep my clothing planner, which I will go into more detail on later, after I have been using it for a while, but like I mentioned before I know I will have trouble with outfit planning, and so I want to have an easy way to organize my outfits and to hopefully make the process a bit smoother. I am planning on making a whole blog post about it, but I want to test it out first, so don’t expect a post too soon. Along with this page to organize my outfits I made another page for outfits I want to try out. A lot of times I will think of an outfit that may look cute, but I don’t always have the time to test out these outfit ideas right away so I made a spot where I can write down pieces that I think might look good together but I need to try them out first.
As you can tell my bullet journal is just mainly lists, and I apparently like to make a lot of lists. There are some pages that aren’t lists for example, one page I wrote down my thoughts about getting a haircut. Writing helps me organize my thoughts and it helps me when I am trying to make decisions. Recently I have been trying to decide if I want to make a change in my hair, and so I made a page and I just wrote my ideas on what I would do, and I thought about what I would need to do differently if I got the haircut. Writing not only helps me process things, but I also hear that if you write something down it is more likely to happen. This is why I also have a page where I write current goals for myself, as well as things I want to work on, like accepting change. I wrote down how I want to study for school in the hopes that I get better at keeping on top of studying this year.
It is sort of like a game plan for school, and since I had already drawn out my schedule this was the next step. I am going to be honest I actually get excited for the beginning of a new school year since I get excited to buy new school supplies and find new and better ways to study and organize. Speaking of school supplies I also made a list of school supplies I needed to buy for this year, as well as a list of what I need to bring for each class. Some may think this is being way too over prepared, but I just want to make sure I have everything.
I am really crazy about planning, and I even created a page to plan for this blog and to store blog ideas, but I can’t show you that ones since it would reveal my secrets. I will share one tip I learned this month that has to do with bullet journals. If you remember I was very disappointed since some of my pages were falling out of my bullet journal and I had to take them out and store them separately. This video shows you how to stop that from happening in the first place and it really does work. I highly suggest you watch it especially because it is very short, and very helpful.
Well I hope you enjoyed this post and maybe it inspired you to start your own bullet journal, my life has been infinitely better since discovering the system, and like I have said before I can see myself using this system for the rest of my life.
