11/14/15I feel like it has been forever since I just done a nice casual chat on this blog to talk about a little bit what is going on in my life. This is mostly because I have been trying to avoid just writing about my life since I did the blog revamp in hopes that the posts would be more informational and substantial because of it. Today I am hoping to do a bit of a combination of talking about what is going on in my life, and in my mind while also talking about purging/organizing. It almost more of what has been going on in my mind for the past year, and what I am looking forward to in the next few months. I have been really inspired over this past year to declutter, but I have been patiently waiting for the right time to do so, and I thought I would share what has gotten me inspired so that maybe it will inspired some of you as well. I am planning on posting a lot about decluttering at the start of next year, so maybe by getting inspired now you will be ready to declutter with me as a new years resolution.

About a year ago Allison Anderson, a youtuber I watch, started becoming more minimalistic, and it was sort of the first time I had heard of the idea. When watching beauty channels on youtube you are constantly watching hauls, or makeup collections and it just has this materialistic theme accompanying it that I hadn’t given much thought to. Seeing one of these beauty gurus changing her ways and getting rid of tons of makeup was kinda crazy. She started by doing a series on her blog called “the purge” which just has beautiful pictures and is inspiring to read. That was just the start of this minimalistic journey for her since she went on to purge a lot of different things in her house, sharing some of her favorite blog posts for minimalism inspiration, and also doing a 3 video series called spring cleaning week where she shared her tips on cleaning out makeup collections, closets, and houses in general, as well as a vlog showing how she declutters.

This was the original seed planted in my head to start to declutter and get rid of useless stuff in my life. Allison continually said how it feels like this weight is being lifted off her shoulders and how great it feels to get rid of things you don’t use or want. Now I like organizing as it is so I was sure that I would love to purge and declutter as well. However at the time I didn’t feel the need to declutter everything right then and there, and with school and homework, and at that time there was also the musical which took up literally every minute I had I couldn’t really think about doing a whole thorough cleaning of all my stuff. When the new year rolled around I got very inspired by blog posts about various things, many being how to achieve your new years resolutions, but also some about organizing. My focus was mainly on my closet and getting rid of clothes I didn’t want although I went easy with it and didn’t force myself to get rid of too many things, since I knew I would need outfits when I started college in the fall, and I knew I would be more stressed about outfits if I had less clothes. I made a deal then that by January of 2016 I would assess what clothes I had worn to school and would actually purge my closet. Even if I wanted to get rid of a piece of clothing I told myself I would have to wait, which may seem odd to some people, but I am the type of person that can dislike some piece of clothing but then figure out a new way to wear it, and fall in love with it. I also don’t have tons and tons of clothes, don’t get me wrong I have a lot, but for someone who has worn a uniform to school all her life and now has to pick out an outfit everyday it seems like I don’t have a lot to choose from. This was the reason I wanted to come up with a system to plan outfits, although that is easier said than done.
Now I don’t know if Allison started a trend or if minimalism just started becoming popular, but soon a lot of other beauty gurus started to get rid of makeup or clothes throughout the spring. Of course they did beautifully filmed videos on them as well, which made me inspired to get rid of things, except I wanted to wait. Here are two examples of some of the beautifully done and inspiring videos.

Now Estée mentioned in her video the book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo which became super popular and I hear and read about it everywhere. Now of course I really wanted to read it, but I knew that after reading the book I would do a huge coset purge, and because I was waiting until the new year to do that I decided to wait. Although do you know how hard it is when you want to start decluttering right now, but you are forcing yourself to wait. This probably seems pointless to those of you reading that I am mildly torturing myself just so I can wait until the new year, but in my head it makes sense ok? I also asked for the book for Christmas and I wanted to read the book before I decluttered, and so it was just a matter of waiting. I also knew it would feel amazing to have a brand new year, and start clean and fresh with everything decluttered and also organized. It gives me something to look forward to, and I am hoping that I will make blog posts about each step of the way, so look forward to that in the new year. I am planing on decluttering literally everything in my life, if you have been a long time reader you may remember back in later February when I cleaned up my Pinterest and Youtube accounts, which is something I plan on doing at the start of the new year as well. I am waiting so that I can do a bunch of these projects all at once so I can really feel the affect in a major way of living with less. I have actually really wanted to go through my Youtube again since I have more videos in my subscription than I can watch, but like with the other projects I am forcing myself to wait. I also know that I will probably watch more Youtube on Christmas break since I will probably be a little bored, so even if I have excess videos now I know later I will wish I had more videos to watch. I also have some declutter videos saved just incase I don’t have enough motivation. If you look up the KonMari method on Youtube you can find tons of people decluttering and it is so motivational. Here is one of my favorites simply because she started with so many clothes and she got rid of so many as well. I know I have shared a lot of videos in this post, but Youtube is my life.
Well that is what has been going on this past year, and all my inspiration for decluttering in one place, which I know I will appreciate in the future. Hopefully by January some of these tips will actually be applied to my life.
